Do your homework, then visit campuses

While most of the heavy recruiting takes place in the late spring and summer in college baseball, recent rule changes have made the fall and winter different than in years past.

Previously college coaches, at least those of us in Division 1, could recruit all year around. We could go off campus to watch any player at any time. We could work various camps and events in the winter. However, those rules changed last year.

There now is a recruiting calendar that does not allow a college coach to recruit off campus from mid-November to March 1. The only thing Div. 1 coaches can do during this time is host camps on our own college campuses.
