Observations from a summer on the road

Like most college coaches, the months of June and July are extremely busy recruiting for me. Between tournaments, showcases and camps, there really is not a day that goes by without 15-20 different events that you can attend.


I’d say that our full coaching staff (I coach at Sacred Heart University) collectively saw at least 5,000 players, maybe even up to 10,000. Personally, I know I saw at least 2,000 players.


When you see this many kids, you start to take a big-picture view of the state of the game of baseball. Some of it is good; some of it is not so good.
