Stop overthinking and focus on one thought

Baseball is a sport that leads to a lot of thinking. We have more statistics than any other sport and certainly it’s the most mechanical of all team sports. It’s definitely a thinking person’s sport, even for players.

We think about our mechanics, our batting average, ERA, the weather, our family in the stands, the umpire, coaches and scouts in the stands and, of course, the opponent we are facing at the plate or on the mound.

While it’s normal to have these thoughts, in reality they aren’t productive to what we’re trying to do in game situations. Although there are times for players to think during games, overthinking almost always is a negative.
